ISO 45001
Every day, workers across the world are killed or injured due to work-related accidents. Despite the fact that the majority of these accidents are preventable, a lot of employers still don't prioritize the safety and health of their employees. Implementing an OH&S Management System is therefore so important. The new ISO 45001 standard provides an excellent framework for establishing and sustaining these systems.
The ISO 45001 standard uses the similar high-level structure used by other management system standards such as ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 which makes it simpler to implement and integrate. It also considers that OH&S requirements differ from industry to industry. For example, construction workers have different OH&S requirements than those working in pharmaceuticals. This is the reason why the standard was designed to be flexible and allows companies to design a program that suits their particular needs.
Although certification isn't mandatory but it is a great way to demonstrate that your company is committed to security and safety of employees. It can also enhance your image and reputation as a responsible business. Additionally, it will help you save money by reducing the risk of injuries and decreasing the cost of insurance.
The standard contains seven clauses however the most important are Clauses 1 3, 2 and 3. You must determine your OH&S requirements and develop a policy. Additionally, you must assess the risks within your company and take steps to mitigate the risk. You should also make sure that your employees are educated and are equipped to prevent accidents. It is also important to communicate to your employees and stakeholders the importance of health and safety in the workplace. This can be done through meetings, presentations, and newsletters.

SCTPP
The Safety Certification for Transportation Project Professionals is a test that shows the core competencies of a professional required to identify, mitigate the risk of typical hazards in transportation projects, and to avoid accidents that could lead to death or injury. Pearson VUE test centres are located throughout the United States. The ARTBA Transportation Development Foundation engaged an internationally-recognized consulting firm specializing in helping industries and government agencies develop effective, fair, valid, reliable and legally defensible assessment and evaluation services to work with industry safety leaders on this program.
SCTPP was launched by top industry leaders and safety advocates via ARTBA's Foundation to dramatically reduce -- and hopefully eliminate the nearly 50,000 fatalities of workers and injuries that happen annually in and around U.S. transportation infrastructure construction projects. It is designed for workers, supervisors and foremen as well planners, designers, operators of equipment, manufacturers, suppliers, and owners.
The SCTPP exam is an 2.5 hour long test that consists of 120 multiple choice questions about assessing, creating and implementing professional safety plans for projects in identifying and reducing risk, managing the personnel on site for projects, creating an incident investigation plan, preparing an accident or incident report, and conducting training sessions for field workers. Those who successfully pass the SCTPP will be awarded a professional certification, which is valid for three years. Recertification is based on documented, continuous learning on the topic and the retesting.
To qualify for the SCTPP applicants must hold at least a bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management and two years of experience* working on transportation construction sites. This experience can include working as a laborer, operator or foreperson and could also be gained through internships. The applicant must also complete the OSHA 30 or OSHA 510 course. SCTPP will pay for the average weighted tuition at an accredited school or the actual tuition in the event of a lower amount. SCTPP does cover some costs but not all.
